The Broadway Shows

June 30th, 2009

Shows are either classified as “Broadway” or “Off-Broadway”. Broadway theaters hold a minimum of 500 people, while Off-Broadway shows hold a smaller number. Many shows that are now on Broadway start off as Off-Broadway shows, and grow into a Broadway theater as they become more popular. Shows on Broadway are usually better known (produced by big names like Disney), but that doesn’t mean they’re all good, or that they are better than all Off-Broadway shows. People have different tastes, and you’re just as likely to have a great time with an Off-Broadway performance as with a Broadway performance. Since the theaters are smaller and the shows aren’t as heavily advertised, Off-Broadway shows are often cheaper than ones on Broadway.

If you are trying to decide what show to see, it can be quite helpful to check out reviews for Broadway shows from other people who have seen the shows you’re interested in.

A channel dedicated to music videos

June 30th, 2009

MTV has been intent on staying consistent to its brand of being a hip and cool choice for teenagers and yuppies alike by exploring the potential of virtual worlds in multimedia entertainment. For the past year, MTV have been launching virtual world counterparts of their signature shows such as a Virtual Laguna Beach, a Virtual Pimp My Ride, a Virtual Newport Harbor, and a Virtual Hills. Even Mariah Carey - the iconic diva of reinvention from her time in the 80s as a sultry belter to an RnB crossover regular in the 21st century - has entered the fray by instituting the Virtual Ford Model Search. This is a virtual platform where wannabe superstars can enter.

This is an interesting possibility for the field of entertainment. With these developments even television is joining the Web 2.0 phenomenon where virtual worlds are a part of. This opens up many interesting implications for end-users. If shows can have a virtual world of their own, then its fans can try to appear in its milieu and participate in its workings. Moreover, it may spell good things for television shows because a show must be popular at first to have a virtual world of its own - prompting end-users to support a show if they truly want to add this virtual world capability.

How to Fill All the Empty Hours

June 30th, 2009

We desire to be independent and in control of our emotional lives, yet we remain dependent and grasping at whatever comes our way. Despite what the authors of The Secret may tell you, the thoughts about ourselves that we insist on are not in and of themselves enough to change the reality of who we are. The Buddha had a simile to explain this. He said that when you try to change an aspect of yourself by willing its opposite, you are like a man who tries to defend himself from an attacker by grabbing the attacker’s blade with bare hands: you end up cut, exactly as your assailant had intended. In other words, not only do our wishful personas not help us change, they actual reinforce the patterns of behavior we hoped to get rid of in the first place.

The secret (if in fact there could ever be such a thing) is that we change ourselves not by layering new narratives about ourselves on top of our already-existing personalities, but rather, simply by seeing clearly and accepting what’s there. I think this is what Nietzsche meant when he said that all power comes from amor fati, or a “love of [one's own] fate.” This is because everything the present shows us is really the inevitable consequence of the past, and thus the only way for us to be independent is, paradoxically, to choose freely to accept this inevitability. Amor fati doesn’t mean “liking” everything that happens to you; it means refusing to fight against inevitability, which is, in the end, the same thing as truth. In art, one frequently sees how genius and beauty spring from the limitations of fate: Django Reinhardt, for example, revolutionized the guitar because he only had three fingers to fret notes with. But our society, so burdened by its sense of progress and quality control, fails to instill in people the idea that success doesn’t come from changing what is so much as from learning to love what is.

What Part Time Jobs Did These Celebrities Have

June 30th, 2009

It’s understandable because there is an incredible amount of opportunity that lies before you. Too many options can cause confusion. Confusion leads to indecisiveness and people start to plan, plan, plan, without taking any action.

There is a good old saying that goes: “No one ever got rich, PLANNING for gold.”

Get it?

People got rich “PANNING for gold!”

In other words, they took action. They kept moving forward until they were successful. And so must you.

Sometimes, the best thing to do is not be so picky and just get to work. Take the first available opportunity, whatever it is, get to work and start building your experience in the work place.

Vampiric Young Adult Novels

June 30th, 2009

One of the great lures of these dark creatures is that people want to be them. To be immortal, sexy, and super strong for an eternity is a pretty attractive proposition. However all of these positive qualities are balanced out by that dark need, a lust that can only be absolved in blood.

When it comes to role playing there are a lot of nerdy games and practices out there. Weird is weird, no matter what crowd your talking about. However, sexy is also sexy, and vampire role playing has a sweet appeal that goes a little bit further than your average dungeons and dragon’s game.

Vampires are seductive. The lure of being taken into their dark world is appealing. Unfortunately it’s also unreal. However that doesn’t have to stop you from dreaming.

Easy Card Trick

June 30th, 2009

Allow your spectator to shuffle the deck and cut it in half. Then, he will give you one half, keeping the other half for himself. You then say: “We will each shuffle our cards to mix them thoroughly.” Each of you does this. You say: “We will each take out one card, look at it, and remember it.”

Then, you pull a card from the center of your half, pretend to look at it and put it on top of your pile (you don’t have to remember this card at all.) Actually, you will peek at your own bottom card, and remember it. Then, you tell your spectator to place his selected card on top of the pack.

After your spectator place his selected card on top of his pack, you add the cards in your hand to the top of his cards. This puts your card (bottom card that you already remembered) on top of his selected card. Ask him to cut the deck a few times in order to lose both cards in the deck (just cut the deck, don’t shuffle.)

RIP Michael Jackson

June 29th, 2009

Michael Jackson’s passing has changed our world forever. He took all of the insanity of the world - the phony, the commercial - and distilled it. He strove to embody our nation’s, nay our world’s, sense of beauty. He personified all the trash that we swallow daily and gave us a target to mock. Now that he has gone, we are alone, profoundly alone.

The world no longer has hope. Around the world, the one thing all humans shared was a love for Michael. He was popular in Korea, Nigeria and India. Now that he is gone, nothing positive can unite us. The world is forever splintered. If the people of Iran wanted us to understand them, they’d suspend the protests for a day in honor of Michael. As it is there is no hope of world unity now. In despair, I keep expecting him to reappear in the sky as our redeemer. This is existentialism.
