There are a number of publications where dealers can advertise and where the hobby of autograph collecting is discussed. Articles providing information on addresses of celebrites and events where celebrities have signed appear. There are tasteless exposes on the best signers and the worst signers as if celebrities have a contractural obligation to sign anything that is placed in front of them especially when a large percentage of autograph hunters are dealers posing as fans. Over the years these publications have listed advertisements from hundreds of dealers advertising autographs ranging from Lincoln to John Wayne to the Beatles. Anything is available for those who have the money. The problem again is that many of the autographs that are offerred by dealers in these magazines are fakes. How can I be so sure of this? You need look no further than the FBI investigation of a company which sold thousands of fake “autographs” many of which were advertised in the prominent autograph magazines. I became concerned when they were offering as many John Wayne autographs as you wanted for less than the going price. I contacted one of the magazines with my concerns and they never responded, running ads for at least a year after my first letter raising concerns. The amount of people who were ripped off by this unscrupulous company must be huge but I believe that the magazines which ran the ads also carried a responsibility and that their crediblity has been scarred.

Autograph clubs and alliances

There is always a need for a hobby to have a forum or a club where collectors can compare notes and find others who have similar interests. The problem is that many dealers use these clubs as a form of Approval. They list their memberships of vaious clubs in their advertising as if that means something. The fact is that membership of these organisations does not mean that the dealer is reputable, honest or trustworthy. It simply means that they are a member of a club where membership is available to anyone who is prepared to pay the joining fee.

Authentication

I was amused to read recently that a prominent autograph dealer was giving courses in authentication. It is a fact that your signature will change and evolve with time. There are times when a signature is little more than a scrawl and times when it is discernably different to other occasions. It is simply impossible to determine absolutely positively that an item is genuine or not unless you saw the act of signing. Unfortunately many dealers who did not see the item signed “in person” are happy provide a certificate proclaiming a “lifetime guarantee of authenticity” when they should be saying something along the lines of “in my opinion the signature appears to be genuine”. Of course they know that the less certain they appear in the certificate the less autographs they sell. They also know that it is hard to challenge any opinion.

The Major Auction Houses

There are a number of auction houses that regularly have autographs sales. Many of the items auctioned are vintage pieces where the star or celebrity has been dead for many years. These auctions do not provide certificates but rather use the coded phrase “some secretarial or printed facsimile” to describe lots. This is a form of disclaimer, where they are not being specific. It is, however, a more honest approach and generally the autographs have been obtained from fairly reliable sources - they have some “provenance” that gives them crediblity. Of course many dealers purchase these autographs and then resell them with Certificates that proclaim a “lifetime guarantee of authenticity”. These certificates are little more than educated guesses.

There are some honest dealers

There are some reputable dealers who obtain their autographs in person through hard work. They attend major events where stars and celebrities are likely to be and are honest in selling their wares. Unfortunately, these dealers are few and far between. The majority of dealers sell autographs that have not been obtained “in person”. They buy large collections, they buy at auctions though the mail, etc etc. No matter how good their intentions are the larger and more diverse their stock, the more likely it is that there will be fakes or non genuine material sold. In many cases they make honest mistakes but the problem lies with their Ceritificates. If they are not 100% certain they should make that clear.

Glamdring’s Sword:

One of the main characters of the Lord of the Rings trilogy is the wizard Gandalf. Although he’s more often seen with his staff, he’s not above breaking out his sword, Glamdring when needed. The Glamdring sword is simple and unique in it’s stylings.

Gandalf’s sword is a long sword with a platinum or bright look to the blade. The handle is wrapped in blue leather and the blade features Elvish runes or writing. Glamdring can be displayed in a case or in it’s scabbard which comes separate.

Anduril Flame of the West:

No Lord of the Ring’s sword collection would be complete without Anduril, the High King’s sword. First belonging to Elasser and later to his heir Aragorn, Anduril was the symbol of hope for a world teetering on destruction.

According to the legend Anduril was the sword that was broken, but through Elvish magic was reforged. Aragorn led the armies of the West to victory over the dark forces that tried to destroy his world. The blade is elegant with extensive work on the handle. It has runes etched in the blade and the handle is wrapped in leather. This is truly a king’s sword!

Sting Sword:
The Sting Sword is the weapon of choice for that mild but adventurous Hobbit, Frodo Baggins. Sting had the ability to glow in the presence of evil Orcs.

The Sting sword is not as long as the average sword. It’s made for Hobbits! The handle is red and gold with a unique flame like emblem wrapped around it. The sword itself has a crest of runes that runs the length of the blade. This sword is a must have for collectors. Choosing a Lord of the Rings sword should start with Sting!

Hadhafang Sword of Arwen:

The Elvish princess Arwen is a beautiful character everyone loves. Her bravery helped saved the world of men and elves. Arwen carries the sword Hadhafang that she inherited from her grandmother and was later used by her father, the Elf King Elron. The blade is long and curved. The blade is inscribed with Elvish runes or writing and is light and elegant.

Boromir’s Sword:

The son of the steward, Boromir brought honor to his household by giving his life for Frodo and his friends. Not a major character but a sincerely brave one Boromir made victory possible for the heroes. The sword is a warrior’s sword. It has a long blade with a sturdy handle. The handle is wrapped in brown leather and has a metal pommel.

Sir Philip Green could also cash in with his retail outlets as they may get exclusive rights to the biggest artists, which he could then use to launch pieces of merchandise and clothing. The entertainments companies’ first job may be to secure a new deal on American Idol, which could possibly make Simon Cowell the highest paid person on American TV. Simon Cowell who earned a huge 44 million pounds last year is now said to be worth an estimated 120 million pounds.

It is said that the matching up of the two is one that everyone should be afraid of including Disney as the Entertainment firm could just be as big, if not even bigger. Simon Cowell is said to be the person that will present and produce the entertainment firms whilst Sir Philip will oversea all of the financial aspects, strategy and merchandising.

The new company will also allow Simon Cowell to further dominate televisions as it is said that he would have a lot more control on work and earnings. The pair are very close friends and they have often been discussing business over dinner.

It would be good to see how all of this eventually works out and it would be great for viewers who have somewhat got bored of watching the same programmes year after year, with no new shows really launching as often as they used too. I just hope that TV does not turn solely into reality television.

There are tons of home made videos on how to draw. Many are made digitally using some kind of graphic editing software. They call such videos “speed drawing” and you can learn a lot just be viewing these videos. The process itself is not really fast, but the video is exported at 2 or 3 times the usual speed (and accompanied by great music too!). That makes the process appear much faster and more interesting. You literally see the image manifest itself in front of your eyes.

The greatest thing about videos is that you can pause or rewind the videos to see how the shape is formed. Drawing is all about shapes. You need to master shapes in order to do well. So make sure you pay attention to how shapes are formed in these videos.

These are actually a form of social networking site. Users upload documents and share them with other users. For example, I’ve once uploaded a free report with 7 useful drawing techniques, and it had received very good response. If you are a member of the site, you can download such material at no cost whatsoever. You can even share them with all your family and friends if you like.

Good old fashion way - search engines
Go to your favorite search engine, and type in search phrases related to free drawing resources. Utilize keywords like “free online drawing lessons”, “learning to paint online”, or “how to sketch”. You will be surprised at the search results that emerge.

The only problem with this approach is that you sometimes get web pages that are littered with ads. But still, since most of the content are of decent quality (and they are free), I’m sure you have no complaints. Most of the information that you are looking for will be available at no charge on the Internet. If you are willing to spend time searching for the information, you can almost always find them. But the process can be a little time consuming.

Paid content saves you time, and they are more well organized. At the end of the day, as long as the lessons help you improve, both free and paid content is good.
